RJ Jones is a highly regarded player in the country in the 2024 class. The 6’9 Forward from Gainesville was sought after by many D1 programs during his recruitment process.
The silky-smooth shooter committed to play for Coach Mike Young and the Virginia Tech Hokies back on October 2nd. The Hokies were able to secure a commitment from Jones despite strong recruitment efforts of LSU, Xavier, Missouri, and the local team, Florida.
Jones is excited to get away from “home” and spread his wings at Virginia Tech as he has spent the last 10 years in Gainesville after living in Indiana and Kansas prior to moving to The Rock in 4th grade.
Taking the Next Step
On Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA early signing period, Jones will sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for Coach Young at Virginia Tech.
He will join teammate Erik Taylor, a senior transfer to The Rock, to sign their respective NLIs at a ceremony at 12pm in the gymnasium of The Rock School. The ceremony will be streamed live on The Rock Athletics YouTube channel.
