Erik Taylor made a difficult choice to leave home a year early.
The talented point guard from Orlando decided to transfer to The Rock for his senior season in hopes that it would better prepare him for college.
But before he would even play a game for The Rock this season, the tough 6’2 guard who transferred from Edgewater High School would commit to play for Coach Chris Mudge and the Sam Houston State Bearkats.
The Perfect Opportunity
Located just outside of Houston in Huntsville, TX, Sam Houston presented yet another opportunity for Taylor to spread his wings and “go away” to school.
Taylor had a large list of schools that offered him a D1 scholarship to play for them, but ultimately he landed on playing for Coach Mudge as he hopes it may help propel him to a professional career in the years to come.
Signing Day
On Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA early signing period, Taylor will sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for Coach Mudge at Sam Houston State.
He will join teammate RJ Jones to sign their respective NLIs at a ceremony at 12pm in the gymnasium of The Rock School. The ceremony will be streamed live on The Rock Athletics YouTube channel.
